Letter from the Commodore

Updated: Feb 19, 2020

Dear Fellow Sailors,

I pass by the lake everyday headed to and from work. The other day as I passed by the dike on Route 6, I passed two eagles perched on their tree. I can’t help but think about summer, when the eagles are guarding their nest high atop Kipp Island. We expect to see them every summer, sitting, watching us sail around the lake. During winter I don’t expect to see them everyday but when I do, I have a flash flood of fond memories and longing for fair weather and winds. The winter winds have little resistance and whips across the lake with ferocity. It would be one heck of a sail for sure!

The best part of the winter dinner meeting is knowing that spring and summertime are getting closer (or at least it should be). We will meet once again at the Willowtree Inn Saturday March 9th. Cocktails and appetizers start at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30. Our meeting will commence immediately following. Please RSVP and pay to Judy McCoy by February 24th.

The only good thing about the miserable weather last year is we didn’t have to spend as much on picnic food, in turn saved on some money. Our dues will remain the same as last year. $35 membership fee, and a $35 racing fee. Please return your membership form with any changes and dues to Judy McCoy by May 1, 2019.

I am looking forward to the 2019 sailing season. We have tweaked the schedule a bit and are planning a reunion event. I’m hoping to see some “old,” but of course young-looking faces. We also scheduled a date to launch and take out boats.

See you soon!

Commodore, Kristen Schmidt
