Commodore's Letter 2024

Dear Members and Friends of the Paupack Sailing Club,

As the snow begins to melt away and the warmth of spring approaches, we are eagerly anticipating the start of the sailing season on Lake Wallenpaupack. I am honored to accept your nomination as Commodore this year. My children and I have been PSC members for the past 6 years and I’ve been fortunate to hold the positions of Communications Chairman, Secretary and Vice Commodore over the past years. I am very much looking forward to the sailing season this year, and putting my best efforts toward living up to the legacy of our past Commodores. I would like to say thank you to our outgoing Club Officers including Kristen Schmidt as Commodore, and Alicia Esser as Secretary. PSC is purely a volunteer run organization and we are grateful for the continued efforts of our members as we continue the tradition of community based sailing into our 26th year. I would also like to welcome the newly elected members to our executive team starting with Keith Bertenshaw as Vice Commodore, and Samantha Gatto as Secretary. Joining our Board of Directors are Mike Griffiths, Juraj Sopkovic, and of course Kristen Schmidt. On behalf of the PSC officers, and board of directors, It is with great excitement, we extend an invitation to all our members to join us at the Annual Winter Dinner Meeting, where we can come together, share stories, and prepare for another fantastic sailing season.

Date: Saturday, April 6th, 2024

Happy Hour 5:30 PM

Dinner 6:30 PM

Location: Willowtree Inn

601 Ann St

Stroudsburg, PA 18360

The cost for this delightful evening is $39.00 per person, and the menu promises a delicious spread for all attendees. Please make sure to send your checks, payable to Paupack Sailing Club, no later than April 1st to the address provided in the RSVP form. Unfortunately, Judy is unable to make the event so checks will not be accepted at the dinner.

While we always strive to keep our annual dues reasonable, the Board has diligently reviewed our budget for the upcoming year. Due to increased expenses for events and insurance, we have found it necessary to adjust the membership fees. We imagine this will not come as a surprise to our Members– all of us are experiencing pervasive inflation throughout our personal and professional lives, from pumping gas to personnel costs to material purchases. The Club is not immune. We understand the importance of fiscal responsibility and assure you that these adjustments were made after careful consideration. We appreciate your understanding as we work to maintain the financial health of our beloved sailing club. The new rates are as follows:

Membership Fee: $50.00 per member

Racing Fee: $50.00 per racing vessel

Please take a moment to fill out the Membership Form and return it to Judy along with your payment. Your prompt attention to this matter will help us streamline the administrative process and ensure a smooth start to the sailing season.

We are enthusiastic about the upcoming sailing season and look forward to reconnecting with familiar faces. Your continued support is vital to the success of the Paupack Sailing Club, and we are grateful for your commitment to our shared passion.

Wishing you fair winds and smooth seas,

Darryl Bell
